I have taught for 34 years having done a 3 year teacher training course qualifying me to teach at junior/secondary levels (Cert. Ed 1966). I taught History at secondary level before transferring to primary. I have worked for Essex, Havering and finally Waltham Forest. My posts have included English coordinator and Head of Special Needs.
In 1986 I joined the Tutorial Service in Waltham Forest as a specialist dyslexia tutor. My then role consisted of teaching and assessing children throughout the Borough as well as providing training and dyslexia awareness to schools. I have a Psychology degree BSc (Hons) 1998, a diploma in SpLD/dyslexia (AMBDA) from the Dyslexia Institute and also the RSA Dip. in SpLD/ dyslexia. I have been on tutor/assessor registers for the Dyslexia Institute and the Broxbourne Unit.
I am a full member of Patoss, a member of BPS (British Psychological Society) and the Dyslexia Association. Having a husband who is dyslexic and a son who has acquired dyslexia (from a stroke) I have a personal as well as professional motivation and interest in keeping up to date with the latest research and have recently done a short course on the brain and dyslexia.
